I use an Android tablet and I can't find any app I like with a useable popup dictionary. I've installed Kindle, Google Books, Moon+ Reader, Kobo and Cool Reader.

They're all quite disappointing and I can't get popup translations in them. The exception is in Google Books, where I have enabled a popup dictionary after installing Google Translate. But the popup only works when I'm online, and doesn't even remember what language I'm reading! I do have a couple of dictionary apps installed but they don't seem to integrate with the readers. What apps are people using, and have you installed some kind of dictionary add-on?My requirements are:- Android 4.4- Free apps only!- My books are side-loaded pdfs and epubs, so I don't care about any built-in 'store'- Preferably an account-free app- Dictionary available offline- Dictionary can pop up without switching to a separate app- Swedish - English is my current language pair- I just want to see the translation of a single word as quickly and seamlessly as possibleAny help out there?

(It definitely works with Moon+ Reader.)In addition to the apps that you've already mentioned also check out for which you can download free audio epub3 books from the.You also probably have already heard about for which you can download free books.BTW, you could outsmart the Kindle for Android app into using a custom dictionary. All you have to do is find a suitable free Kindle or Mobipocket dictionary, rename it so that it has the same name as an existing dictionary and then overwrite the existing dictionary with your custom dictionary. For more information see this.Don't have a suitable custom Kindle dictionary?.The same goes for StarDict dictionaries which you can. I am going to review Readlang here as an ebook reader (even though it might not meet all of OP's specifications). It's what I use as my Android ebook reader app.

Although it is technically a web site, if you save a link to it on your Android home screen, it functions as a full-screen ebook reader app just like any other.PROSThe killer feature of Readlang as an ebook reader is that any word or phrase you look up is saved and entered into the Readlang SRS, and is also available for export into Anki or any other SRS. If you SRS at all, this feature is a.huge.

advantage over all other conventional ebook readers. Readlang also sorts your saved words according to a frequency dictionary, to maximize the efficiency of your SRS study time.It works as you'd expect in Readlang-touch a word or phrase, and the Google translation appears inline within the text. The dictionary definition appears in a side panel, not a popup. I do not use this feature, being satisfied with Google translate.Readlang shows you the word count for each book, and an estimated CEFR level for each book.CONSReadlang will only accept DRM-free Epub files. This means that if you buy a book with DRM - or that is not in Epub format - you will need to run it through Calibre to remove the DRM and convert it to Epub. This is easy, but it adds an extra step for each book.

If your books are in Epub and don't have DRM, you simply upload them to your personal private Readlang library in your Readlang account. If you don't trust Google translate and want a popup dictionary, Readlang is probably not the best choice.SUMMARYIf you SRS, Readlang is in my opinion by far the best ebook reader for moving your saved words into your SRS. It's really the only one I know of that is specifically built for this purpose. This is why I use Readlang to read ebooks. I think it's a great program for my personal needs, and have no complaints at all about it.
