This is a great quality headset that makes it possible to use a modern tapered steerer fork on a frame with a 44mm ID headtube. Installation is a little tricky though. The insertion depth of the lower cup is deeper than most 44mm headtubes are designed for since 44mm headtubes were originally designed for zero stack headsets with straight 1 1/8 steerer forks. This means that you may need to have your frame's headtube bore cut slightly deeper, which can be done but requires some special tools. Also, just as some other people have commented, the aluminum cups are somewhat soft which means even with a proper headset installation press you need to be careful installing this headset to avoid bending the cups; and trying to install it with a rubber mallet or a hammer and a block of wood is a bad idea because you will probably ruin the cups.
The bottom line is that this a great headset that works exactly as it should but you should have a good experienced bike shop install it for you unless you have a lot of experience working on bikes and all the proper tools. BEST ANSWER: My fork is 1 1/8 tapered to 1 1/2.

My stearer tube is 1 1/8 all the way through so it's not tapered. This cane Creek headset worked great. It does make your fork stick out some 1/4in more at the bottom but that's fine, unless your fork is already at max travel that the frame supports.
Then check with frame manufacturer. My fork was 160mm and that was the max that frame would support, but I lowered the forks travel to 140mm anyway and solved that little problem.

44mm HT is one of several standards that have been used for 1 1/8 straight head tubes - and one that can accommodate full zero stack top and bottom for a straight steer. For taper, I am fully aware you'll need zs top and ec bottom.
I am also fully aware of the spec listed listed, and as the selection used to add to basket contradicts the spec, I think any sane and rational individual will do as I do, and CONFIRM what they are ordering.on May 12, 2017.
