Originally posted by:The only reason for attacking targets outside of lock range is to 'cheese' them, or hit them from a far enough distance or platform to avoid all means to attack back.I wouldn't say it's the only reason but these are obviously good reasons.Still the reasons don't matter. A bow is a ranged weapon with nearly exactly the same purpose as ranged damage spells. So if a bow has a decent aming feature I'd like to have the same for spells.Judging from your comments the problem is not that I haven't found it but that there really is none in game. That's really pitty for caster classes but well, I didn't want to start a discussion about game design so it is what it is I guess.

So if a bow has a decent aming feature I'd like to have the same for spells. You haven't noticed it probably, but the arrows suffer from a harsh damage dropoff when striking outside their range. If the arrow starts dropping, it's not hitting at full power.Spells don't have this problem.

Most will travel until they hit a wall. And won't lose nearly as much damage as arrows do. Granted, you can increase this distance with the Hawk ring.Judging from your comments the problem is not that I haven't found it but that there really is none in game.

That's really pitty for caster classes but well, I didn't want to start a discussion about game design so it is what it is I guess.Well, the problem is that the binox trick isn't techically 'aiming'. Basically, it works as all non-locked attacks outside of melee are aimed at the 'center' of the screen. By using the binox, you can 'aim' this center a lot easier than with the 3rd person camera.I call it a crutch merely because outside of long range sniping, which as you mentioned is probably better with bows, it's far too unwieldy to use instead of the crosshair.Don't let me stop you from using it. In fact, once you get a feel for where the 'aim' is on the camera, you can be DEADLY in a fight by aiming spells to hit where the target is GOING to be, rather than where they rolled from. And since melee users have learned to roll during the casting time to dodge the spell with good time to spare, they're not going to expect a sudden change in direction to Soul Spear them into next week, now are they?EVERYTHING in Dark Souls has a use. You just need to practise and think about where to use it.Game's hard enough as it is.
